WATER RESOURCES DEPARTMENT MANAGER

 

ABOUT PATCHETT DESIGN GROUP

POSITION PURPOSE

The Water Resources Department Manager owns PDG’s water resources delivery. This is a leadership role for someone who can set technical standards, mentor engineers, and drive predictable outcomes for clients.

You are responsible for the quality and clarity of what leaves the department: calculations, studies, plans, and coordination. You will be trusted with real responsibility and expected to lead with judgment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP & ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Set the standard for quality, clarity, and follow through across the water resources team.
  • Lead and mentor engineers and designers through coaching, review, and clear expectations.
  • Own staffing and delivery planning so deadlines do not drift and problems do not go late quietly.
  • Build simple, repeatable workflows that increase consistency and reduce rework.
     

CLIENT AND AGENCY COORDINATION

  • Serve as a primary point of contact on water resources scope, risks, and decisions
  • Communicate in plain language, surface tradeoffs early, and keep teams aligned.
  • Coordinate with agencies and reviewers proactively to reduce review cycles and surprises.
     

TECHNICAL DELIVERY

  • Oversee preparation and review of hydrology and hydraulics deliverables, drainage studies, and stormwater management design.
  • Ensure designs are defensible, constructible, and aligned with local requirements and review expectations.
  • Provide technical guidance on complex constraints and help teams choose the right solution early.
  • Maintain quality control on calculations, exhibits, plan sheets, and report narratives.

In the first 90 days

  • You have clear quality expectations and a review process that the team can follow.
  • Deadlines are owned, scope is clear, and deliverables are predictable.
     

In 6 months

  • Water resources delivery is consistent, review comments are down, and junior engineers are leveling up.
  • Clients experience fewer surprises and better coordination.
